Breathe

A piece inspired by the xylem in plants and the way they absorb nutrients.

Made to be exhibited as part of a sculpture trail in Picton Castle, Hertfordshire; my love of science and nature combined with a new-found fascination in rust, led to the creation of Breathe. Drawing from the beauty of the trees in Picton’s gardens, this piece shows the movement within a tree, the flow of nutrients and energy within its xylem and phloem. The scrap steel used in this piece has been reclaimed and now stands as something new, it breathes. The metal will continue to oxidise and grow.
